This is a two-storey detached house on a corner and greatly inclined plot, in the village of Daratsos, Chania.

the local climate, the peculiar shape of the plot and the iconic traditional Cretan architecture were decisive in the formulation of architectural synthesis and morphological characteristics of the dwelling.

There was an effort to design a building following the plot’s lines, integrating it in its inclinations and overall morphology.

Hence the main layout of the residence follows an open and inverted “Γ” shape: it creates a front on the street and a “protected” yard which opens up to the view. The building is organised in two volumes which are connected by the two-storey high open entrance area, while the basement area extends and creates a separate autonomous volume -the guesthouse of the residence- providing a kind of protection-barrier to the north.

The residence contains many outdoor open and semi-open spaces, with planted slopes which completely following the inclinations of the terrain.

The materials used are colored plaster (kourasani), colored concrete blocks and metallic elements, which complement and complete the building’s “image”.
